Hailing from Turin, this trio is widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and original acts on the Italian scene today. Their music serves as a continuation of the artistic lineage established by legendary songwriters such as Tom Waits, Nick Cave, and Leonard Cohen. Simultaneously, their sound contains a vast catalogue of references to illustrative theatrical and cinematic music.
The group ingeniously incorporates traditional music while drawing inspiration from classical literature (their name is a direct nod to Mark Twain\u2019s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) and folklore. To this foundation, the artists add more contemporary, high-decibel textures, resulting in a remarkably compelling effect. The band’s sonic palette is built around the violin, accordion, and banjo, all seasoned with a well-balanced dose of electronics. Over the past decade, the Italians have shared the stage with artists such as Hugo Race and Bonnie \u2018Prince\u2019 Billy. Following their performance in Lublin, they are certain to win over the hearts of the Different Sounds audience. <\/p>\n

GUSSTAFF RECORDS<\/h2>\n

This concert was presented as part of the Gusstaff Records showcase. Each year, a key element of the Different Sounds festival is the presentation of an influential record label. This year, we have the great pleasure of hosting the cult label Gusstaff Records, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2023. <\/p>\n

As music journalist Rafa\u0142 Ksi\u0119\u017cyk writes:
“On exactly 4 May 1998, Janusz Mucha from Zielona G\u00f3ra registered a business under the name Gusstaff Records, and he continues to run it under that same banner today. While that was the official beginning, the story started much earlier. It began, naturally, with the passion of an alternative music fan. Driven by this obsession, Mucha became a contributor to the zine Korek, published in Wo\u0142\u00f3w from late 1991. He didn’t just write about music; he took his first steps as a publisher there, preparing a cassette compilation of bands from the US and Germany to accompany the magazine. These were the days when obtaining an artist’s permission required writing physical letters. It worked, and from 1996, Mucha and his friend\u2014Korek editor Igor Pietrzykowski\u2014began releasing licensed tapes under the Korek\/Gusstaff imprint.” <\/p>\n
