When we think of nature’s sounds, we often picture the vibrant springtime chorus of birds, especially at dawn. Yet, dawn isn’t nature’s only concert. Night brings its own surprising richness of sound, a world alive with activity.
Owls, nightingales, nightjars, foxes, deer, bush-crickets, and field crickets\u2014these creatures emerge after dark, filling the air with calls and songs. Far from frightening, their nocturnal world is fascinating and mysterious.
Night truly has its own music, as captivatingly beautiful as the day’s. So, if you’re curious to discover the unmatched harmonies of nightingales and crickets, hear a herd of hinds venturing down to the river, or listen in on a beaver gathering branches on an autumn night, I invite you on an extraordinary journey through Poland’s nocturnal soundscapes\u2014a deep dive into the music of the night. <\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/strong>Izabela D\u0142u\u017cyk <\/strong>is  a distinguished sound documentarian, nature sound recordist, translator, and Doctor of Humanities. Her captivating field recordings transport listeners to diverse locations, from Poland’s ancient Bia\u0142owie\u017ca Forest and the sprawling Biebrza Valley to the remote Peruvian Amazon.
Her deep fascination with nature, particularly the intricate songs of birds, began in childhood. This early curiosity blossomed into a profound awareness of nature’s sonic richness, evolving into a dedicated passion for recording not only avian life but also other animals and expansive natural soundscapes.
D\u0142u\u017cyk holds degrees in English and Russian studies from the University of Gda\u0144sk. She primarily collaborates with the Australian label Listening Earth, the Polish publisher Soliton, and the Slovak label LOM.
In a testament to her global impact, Izabela D\u0142u\u017cyk was recognized as one of the BBC\u2019s 100 Most Influential Women in the World in 2023. <\/p>\n

To help restore balance, we invite you to a unique sonic reset: a meditative, collective immersion in the sounds of the natural world, while also showcasing the compelling work of Polish field recording artists. <\/p>\n

Start your festival day with a moment of calm. On three festival mornings (Friday to Sunday), we invite you to unplug and unwind in a one-of-a-kind sound sanctuary. Step into a darkened room, leave the visual noise behind, and sink into soft cushions and deck chairs. Let yourself be fully immersed in the subtle rhythms of the natural world, as specially curated field recording sets wash over you.
Crafted exclusively for Different Sounds by Poland\u2019s leading field recording artists\u2014Izabela D\u0142u\u017cyk, Tomek Mirt, and Krzysztof Topolski\u2014these sonic journeys offer a meditative reset for your senses.<\/p>\n

Each of our three listening sessions invites you into a distinct and immersive world of sound.
Tomek Mirt transports you to Tarutao\u2014an island in Thailand draped in dense tropical jungle\u2014where every rustle, hum, and echo becomes part of a living story. Krzysztof Topolski\u2019s Every Other Breath brings the pulse of the Baltic Sea to your ears, with recordings from the windswept shores of the Gulf of Gda\u0144sk. And Izabela D\u0142u\u017cyk opens a portal to the magic of nocturnal soundscapes, capturing the hidden voices of the Polish night. <\/p>\n

Let the soundscapes guide you\u2014each one a new journey, each one a world of its own. Take a break, reset your ears with Polish field recordings, and tune in for the next wave of musical experiences at Different Sounds.<\/p>\n

How to prepare for your listening session<\/p>\n

  • Arrive early: Please come at least a few minutes before 11.00 to choose your listening spot. We’ll have cushions, deck chairs, and blankets available.<\/li>\n
  • Silence your phone: Turn off your phone’s sounds and avoid using it during the session. The listening room will be darkened, and screen light can disturb others.<\/li>\n
  • Stay for the duration: If possible, please try not to leave during the session, as it might distract other listeners.<\/li>\n
  • Give yourself time to adjust: Your mind, accustomed to listening to music, might initially find it challenging to follow subtle, individual sounds. Allow yourself time: close your eyes, relax, and let your hearing guide you through the diversity and variability of the sounds.<\/li>\n
