ABOUT
Founded in London in the 1990s by producers and musicians Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry, The Herbaliser masterfully executed an instrumental fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and funk. This blend allowed them to cultivate a bespoke concept of progressive club music, earning the collective a status as true legends of the British scene operating at the intersection of jazz and electronic beats.
The group is recognised as one of the most influential ensembles of the creatively fertile turn of the millennium—a pivotal era when a new wave of modern British sound dominated the global market. While Bristol was birthing the trip-hop movement led by Massive Attack and Portishead, and The Prodigy was churning out hit after hit, London became the stronghold for iconic labels like Ninja Tune and Warp Records, which championed acid jazz, jungle, ambient, and IDM.
From the very beginning, the founders of The Herbaliser have been synonymous with the cult Ninja Tune imprint. Alongside artists like Amon Tobin, Bonobo, and Coldcut, the band has served for years as one of the label’s flagship acts. The Herbaliser arrives in Lublin with their massive nine-piece live ensemble as one of the primary headliners of this year’s Different Sounds festival.
