Sun Ra Arkestra | USA
Sun Ra Arkestra is a legendary artistic ensemble founded in the 1950s in the United States by Herman Poole Blount, known to the world as Sun Ra. This brilliant composer and pianist is widely regarded as a pioneer of Afrofuturism and one of the fundamental figures in the history of American jazz. A true total artist and cultural icon, he was involved not only in music but also in philosophy, poetry, theatre, and even experimental art. Sun Ra led his orchestra for over 40 years, until his death in 1993. His legacy, however, continues to thrive to this day under the direction of the outstanding saxophonist Marshall Allen, along with many other members of the original lineup. Throughout its long career, Sun Ra Arkestra has both defined and redefined successive musical movements, boldly exploring new territories and sounds. Jazz, blues, electronics, swing, space rock, and free improvisation—all serve as material in the hands of this phenomenal group of artists, whose concerts are truly one-of-a-kind experiences.
