Squarepusher | GBR
ABOUT
Squarepusher, the stage name of Tom Jenkinson, is an undisputed titan of the British electronic scene and a cornerstone artist of the legendary Warp Records. His work navigates the complex intersections of drum’n’bass, IDM, jazz, and electroacoustic music, all defined by his signature intricate drum programming and virtuosic live instrumental parts.
Without question, Squarepusher is an artist in a state of constant exploration, approaching sonic matter with radical openness. This is evidenced by his diverse discography—most notably the 2014 album Music for Robots, which he composed for performance by three robots. Jenkinson first collaborated with the Japanese roboticists behind Z-Machines in 2013, accepting the challenge to write music for machines capable of performing with a technical precision that far exceeds the physical limits of even the most advanced human musicians.
By contrast, in 2018, he composed an ambient soundtrack for the BBC CBeebies programme Daydreams, a one-hour children’s special narrated by Olivia Colman. However, in his most recent work, Squarepusher returns to his “acid” roots, and it is precisely this high-octane drum’n’bass journey that he will bring to the Different Sounds audience. 8.07.2022 | 22.00
