Olo Walicki & Zbigniew Namysłowski | POL

ABOUT

Olo Walicki Kaszebe is a project renowned for its uncompromising and innovative approach to Kashubian culture. Both the first and second albums serve as a testament to their independence, setting new standards for contemporary artistic creation rooted in this region. The core of the project lies in a desire to deeply explore Kashubian culture—analyzing and deconstructing its music, history, customs, and natural context to free and eventually reintegrate these essential elements.

Applying this same philosophy to Armenian music, Olo Walicki has prepared a premiere repertoire specifically for the Different Sounds Festival. He will perform this new material with his ensemble and special guest Zbigniew Namysłowski.

The addition of the legendary improviser and saxophonist brings a new dimension to the group’s powerful guitar sounds, catchy melodies, and extensive percussion section. For Walicki, inviting Namysłowski—a virtuoso famous for fusing folk and ethnic music with jazz—represents a symbolic reunion with a Master. It was in Namysłowski’s quartet that Walicki spent nearly a decade gaining invaluable musical insight and honing his craft.

The concert will feature newly composed material inspired by Armenian folk and classical music, including references to the sacred vocal form known as the sharakan.

OLO WALICKI KASZEBE –

A group of musicians and friends who boldly experiment with form, aesthetics, and the raw energy of live performance.

Line-up:
M.Bunio.S – vocalist of the cult band Dick4Dick.
Piotr Pawlak – guitarist known for his work with Kury, Łoskot, and Bielizna.
Tomek Ziętek – trumpeter and keyboardist (LocoStar, Dick4Dick, Nosowska, formerly Pink Freud).
Kuba Staruszkiewicz – drummer for Maria Peszek and Tomek Makowiecki (ex-Pink Freud).
Tomasz Sowiński – guest artist on classical percussion.

The music is composed by singing bassist Olo Walicki. A co-creator of the Yass movement (Łoskot, the final lineup of Miłość) and a collaborator with jazz greats like Leszek Możdżer and Mazzoll, Walicki is the visionary behind the 2007 cult album OW KASZEBE. His diverse career includes the multimedia project The Saintbox with Gaba Kulka, film scores, and theatrical collaborations, including his recent musical debut To be authentic, or not to be, performed alongside Andrzej Seweryn.
