ABOUT

Lech Janerka is one of the most vital figures in Polish independent music over the last forty years. A vocalist, bassist, and songwriter, he founded the legendary formation Klaus Mitffoch in 1979. Their self-titled 1980s debut featured tracks that became cornerstones of Polish rock, such as “Ewolucja, rewolucja i ja” and “Strzeż się tych miejsc.” Today, many critics agree that Janerka’s visionary New Wave project was years ahead of its time.
After leaving the band, Janerka focused on his solo career, releasing the groundbreaking album Historia podwodna under his own name. This era produced further hits, including “Konstytucje,” “Ta zabawa nie jest dla dziewczynek,” and “Niewole.” These works were marked by bold formal explorations and the distinctive sound of the cello, played to this day by Bożena Janerka. Alongside Lech and Bożena, the group was then rounded out by guitarist Krzysztof Pociecha and drummer Janusz Rołt (known for his work with Brygada Kryzys and Armia).
Over the years, Janerka has continued to release original albums, garnering numerous accolades along the way—including Fryderyk Awards for the album Fiu fiu and the Song of the Year, “Rower.” His return to the stage in Lublin was a perfect opportunity for both longtime fans and the younger Different Sounds audience to experience this legend live.
