Izzy & the Black Trees | POL
ABOUT
Another gem released by Antena Krzyku, this group is one of the most compelling young guitar bands on the domestic scene. The band is fronted by Iza „Izzy” Rekowska, who is responsible for the lyrics and the group’s signature sound, built upon a classic rock foundation of guitars, bass, and drums.
Stylistically, one can hear a deep fascination with Patti Smith, PJ Harvey, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, alongside excursions into punk, Americana, and noise. Their album Trust No One sounds fresh and defiant, packed with a high dose of energy. It is a perfect fit for the Antena Krzyku catalogue, and Izzy and the Black Trees undoubtedly face a very promising future.
ANTENA KRZYKU
A significant portion of this year’s programme is dedicated to a showcase of Antena Krzyku—a label founded in 1984 by Arek Marczyński, focusing on the broad spectrum of independent music. Over the last 35 years, Antena has become an absolute cult institution, gaining renown and recognition both in Poland and internationally. Indeed, this internationalism is a cornerstone of the label’s identity; beyond releasing key artists from the Polish alternative scene, their catalogue is filled with high-profile names from the European and North American scenes.
The primary genres explored by Antena Krzyku include punk, post-punk, avant-garde, post-rock, electronics, and noise, occasionally veering into jazz. Throughout its long and multifaceted history, the label has also published its own magazine, organised concert tours, and regularly spearheaded new musical and cultural phenomena.
As part of this special showcase, the festival will feature a meeting with the label’s founders and associated artists, alongside an exhibition of posters and album cover art. Musically, the programme will present a wide spectrum of the talent currently gathered under the Antena Krzyku banner.
