Big Lao Che Band | POL/ BLR
ABOUT
Big Lao Che Band — a project conceived and produced exclusively for the Different Sounds Art’n’Music Festival.
The outstanding Polish group Lao Che returns, bolstered by an exceptional brass section and unique guests, including Yegor Zabelov (accordion) and Sveta “Benka” Ben (vocals) from Minsk.
To describe Lao Che as merely “unique” or “one-of-a-kind” is a significant understatement. Since their formation in Płock in 1999, the band has consistently surprised and captivated audiences. Each of their albums has become a major artistic event—from the Proto-Slavic echoes of Gusła and the profound, stirring Warsaw Uprising, to the chart-topping Gospel and the electronic excursions of Prąd stały/prąd zmienny (AC/DC). Their latest record, Soundtrack, produced in London by Eddie Stevens (noted for his work with Moloko and Róisín Murphy), is no exception. Beyond the diversity of their sound and the depth of their themes, the artists of Lao Che are defined by a relentless search for new challenges and creative contexts.
It is this spirit of exploration that brings this special project to this year’s Different Sounds Festival in Lublin. Lao Che is, in essence, an institution on the Polish musical landscape. Now, enriched by the power of a brass section and the presence of extraordinary Belarusian artists, they are set to achieve an entirely new sonic dimension. It is safe to assume that this will be one of the most compelling highlights of this year’s festival.
