Atomic Simao | UKR
ABOUT
Hailing from Kyiv, this formation is currently one of the most promising acts on the Ukrainian independent scene. The artists skillfully blend jazz themes with the raw expression of improvisation, a rock edge, the driving dynamics of funk, and electronic textures. Navigating genres such as acid jazz, space rock, and psychedelia, their compositions immediately evoke comparisons to the works of The Cinematic Orchestra or Tortoise—or, closer to the Polish scene, the style of Contemporary Noise Sextet.
Atomic Simao possesses immense potential to make a lasting mark on the European musical map, and this year’s Different Sounds Festival may serve as a significant milestone in that journey. Having rapidly built a dedicated following in Ukraine, the group is now poised to captivate the rest of Europe.
The lineup features: Jora Valchuk (drums), Dima Dudko (saxophone), Nikita Gavrilenko (bass), Jenya Sophiychuk (guitar), Andrey Volkoff (keyboards, pads, samples), and Andrey „Bart” Dvoryashin (percussion, Korg Kaoss Pad, samples, and vocals).
