Hacke & de Picciotto DEU / USA
ABOUT
For years, Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto have formed a truly unique duo, weaving together disparate aesthetics and musical styles. Their creative output boldly transcends the boundaries of music, as the artists draw inspiration from literature, visual arts, and poetry, as well as the raw sounds and imagery of the natural world. Indeed, both are considered living legends within the sphere of independent European culture.
Danielle, an American who settled in Berlin in 1987, arrived just as the city was on the precipice of an artistic revolution. Beyond her work with the violin and piano, she is renowned for her virtuosic command of rare and exquisite instruments, such as the hurdy-gurdy and the autoharp. Over the decades, she has been a member of influential groups like Crime & the City Solution and Space Cowboys, and was also a key figure in the founding of Berlin’s original Love Parade.
Alexander is best known as the bassist and a founding member of the iconic Einstürzende Neubauten. This cornerstone of the global avant-garde scene previously performed at Different Sounds in 2015; now, the artist returns in a far more intimate and understated capacity. The duo arrives in Lublin to showcase material from their latest album, Menetekel, though the set is also expected to feature compositions from its predecessor, Perseverantia.
