Little Different Sounds | Sound & Steps inspired by Africa | for ages 7-12 |

About

This workshop invites children to explore music through engaging, creative activities centered around Batia Strauss’s active listening method. This approach encourages children to connect with sound using their bodies, emotions, and minds. The instructor will also introduce a wide range of Carl Orff instruments, providing a unique opportunity for children to experiment with diverse sounds and collaboratively compose music together.

Part of the workshop will focus on circle dances and creative movement, using props to encourage group bonding, a sense of community, and spontaneous fun.

The entire workshop will immerse children in African themes, introducing them to a variety of authentic instruments like the djembe drum, kalimba, and rainstick. They’ll also explore other instruments used in ethnic and relaxing music, including the cabasa, koshi chimes, tongue drum, and handpan. This musical and movement-based experience promises to be both enriching and culturally fascinating!
