Girls Against Boys | USA

ABOUT

Girls Against Boys is a collective with a direct lineage to the Washington D.C. hardcore-punk scene, founded by three-quarters of the band Soulside alongside Eli Janney. Now based in New York City, the group has carved out a distinct style that fuses post-punk, hardcore, noise, and indie rock.
A hallmark of their sound is the simultaneous use of two bass guitars, which lends their music a singular, heavy-hitting character. For years, Girls Against Boys has remained a vital force on the guitar-driven scene, having toured with many of its global heavyweights, including Rage Against The Machine, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Foo Fighters, Interpol, Jawbox, Fugazi, Garbage, and Atari Teenage Riot.
The band arrives in Lublin this July to promote the anniversary edition of their seminal album, House of GVSB. This performance represents the only opportunity to see this outstanding group live in Poland.

DISCHORD RECORDS

Each year, a central pillar of the Different Sounds festival is the showcase of a record label that has made a singular impact on the global music market. This year, Lublin welcomes a true titan of the hardcore punk scene: Washington D.C.’s Dischord Records, alongside three of its preeminent acts—Scream, Soulside, and Girls Against Boys.

In our annual presentation of unique labels, we focus on imprints that are distinctive, exploratory, and bold enough to forge their own musical paths, independent of fleeting trends or popularity contests. The legendary Dischord Records embodies this spirit perfectly. Founded in 1980 by the members of The Teen Idles (led by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson) to release their own material, it eventually became the definitive home for local punk and underground bands.
Dischord has specialised in genres such as hardcore, punk rock, indie rock, emo, and post-hardcore, representing seminal acts including Minor Threat, The Faith, Void, Youth Brigade, Embrace, Rites of Spring, Nation of Ulysses, Dag Nasty, and Fugazi. The label is world-renowned for its rigorous DIY (Do It Yourself) ethic; its artists typically self-produce their albums and maintain affordable pricing without the financial backing of major distributors. This independent philosophy extends to their graphic design, tour booking, and documentary filmmaking.
The festival showcase will feature live concerts, film screenings, exhibitions, and a panel discussion portraying this extraordinary label, featuring both Dischord representatives and long-time artists from the roster.
