Zhadan i Sobaki v Kosmosi
ABOUT
The band was formed in 2000 and almost immediately rose to prominence as the most distinctive ska group in their native Kharkiv, soon after taking the entire Ukrainian music scene by storm. Describing their own style as “erotic SKA,” Sobaki v Kosmosi bring a wealth of live performance experience to the stage. Following their 2003 debut album Va_i, the group recently released their latest record, Gruppa ishet producera (The Band is Looking for a Producer).
In Lublin, Sobaki will be joined by Serhiy Zhadan—a renowned poet, novelist, performer, and director. Zhadan’s work seamlessly weaves the traditions of Ukrainian poetry (particularly Futurism) and punk culture into the symbolic industrial landscapes of the modern city. A celebrated figure, Zhadan has received numerous accolades, including the 1998 Bu-Ba-Bu Prize for Poem of the Year. He is well known to international readers for works such as the prose collection Big Mac, the novels Depeche Mode, Anarchy in the UKR, and Anthem of Democratic Youth, as well as the poetry volume The History of Culture at the Beginning of the Century.
